10 Essential Kitchen Tools

The criteria to make this list of tools was based on being user-friendly, easy to clean, and made to last.

The best kitchen tools can be difficult to find and even harder to know which ones to purchase. After 20 years in the housewares business, I have been on a quest to find the most user-friendly, high quality, and easy to clean kitchen tools. And so this list was born. When I owned my kitchen store in Vermont, I did things differently than what was expected. I bought and sold high-quality tools made to last a lifetime. Not what I consider gadgets, only needed tools of the trade. No offensive gadget like avocado and kale peelers were allowed! I am on a mission to make cooking more fun, and the tools you use doing it matters.

4. Professional Fine Microplane - Zest is a powerful ingredient and one of my favorites. It’s fresh and vibrant. Add more zest and life to your dishes with this professional tool. Perfect for nutmeg also! LINK

5. Rosle Perforated Spatula - Thin edge for delicate flipping and overall just lovely to use with nice weight and balance. Lifetime guarantee. German design. LINK

6.. Miyabi 8-inch Chef Knife - A sharp knife is safer than a dull knife, and not all knives hold an edge the same. This ultra-thin Japanese blade holds the best edge I have ever experienced because of the way it is made locking in long-lasting sharpness. The handle is made of Karelian Birch, the only wood ever used in a Faberge egg. Exquisite and ergonomic. LINK

7. Broad and Taylor Professional Knife Sharpener - In my 25 years as a chef knife sharpening has been a big topic! In 2015 I was introduced to this fabulous sharpener and have never looked back. User-friendly with easy to reference directions, plus it hones and sharpens serrated knives. Made in Australia. LINK

8.. Professional Medium Grater - This gem is what I use for ginger. Ginger is very fibrous and when chopped and always leaves a crunch. After grating, you are left with a puree of beautiful fresh ginger, and the fibers are left behind. Excellent for hard cheeses, jalapeños, and chocolate too. LINK

9. Jug Whisk - Long and thin for mixing up fresh or day-old juices and tonics. Plus, a joy for mixing my pancake recipe. Lifetime guarantee. German design. LINK

10. Bench Scraper - Please do not scrape your knife on your cutting board. Ever! Use this handy tool to pick up and move around your chopped vegetables. LINK

All of the tools are dishwasher safe except for the knife and bench scraper.
